Kay Shepard Qualitative Research Symposium and The Marilyn Gossman Graduate Student Research Seminar: Future Faculty

Submissions Now Open Through July 15!

Kay Shepard Qualitative Research Symposium

The Katherine Shepard Qualitative Research Symposium showcases qualitative and mixed methods research that deepens our understanding of the human experience and advances clinical, educational, and professional knowledge within physical therapy. Given Kay Shepard’s commitment and groundbreaking work to engage the physical therapy community in qualitative research, this session is dedicated to advancing the science of this growing area of scholarship. This forum serves as a unique opportunity for presentation and discussion of the qualitative research process and provides an inclusive venue for interaction among the presenters and the audience.  Researchers will share their work, followed by a panel led discussion where we will explore the qualitative methods presented and discuss their unique value to the profession, strengths, and challenges. We welcome qualitative researchers of all levels who are looking to expand their knowledge and engage with like-minded qualitative and mixed methods researchers.

When applying for the Kay Shepard Award, begin by selecting the Research Section. Once selected, you will see the option to submit your abstract specifically for the Kay Shepard Award.

If your abstract is not accepted for the symposium, it will automatically be considered for a Research Academy platform or poster presentation.

The Marilyn Gossman Graduate Student Research Seminar: Future Faculty

The Marilyn Gossman Graduate Student Research Seminar recognizes the valued contributions of Dr. Marilyn Gossman, PT, PhD, FAPTA, who served as a mentor to many developing (as well as experienced) researchers – both individually and through her tremendous service and commitment to the Foundation for Physical Therapy. This CSM session provides a forum for post-professional graduate students to present results of scientific investigations and fosters collegial discussion among graduate students, physical therapy researchers, and clinicians. The platform presenters are selected by the Gossman Review Committee from among the top submissions based on quality and apparent rigor of the research from post-professional graduate students. Post-professional graduate students are those pursuing an advanced degree after completing their professional education (i.e., DPT or PTA); membership in the Academy of Research is expected.
